Brasil joined the Program "In the Right Hands", of Childhood Brasil - representative in the country of World Childhood Foundation. The main purpose of the project is to join efforts and mobilize governments, companies and organizations of the civil society in the most effective fight against the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the Brazilian highways.

According to a survey conducted in 2009 by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), there are 1,819 vulnerable points to the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the more than 56 thousand kilometers of the Brazilian Federal Highway network. Gas stations, bars, nightclubs, restaurants or even the highway shoulders are indicated as the most critical locations by PRF.

In the end of April, approximately 25 collaborators of Tecon Santos and Santos Brasil Logística participated of the first workshop of the program, focused in the qualification of the company's representatives with the program (called focal points) and multipliers, volunteers who are in charge of orienting the more than 115 truck drivers of the company on the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

The intention is to sensitize the truck drivers to the problem, qualifying them so they can act as protection agents, co-responsible for the elimination of the sexual exploitation.

The program "In the Right Hands" foresees quarterly meetings gathering focal points, multipliers and drivers for the theme discussion, promotion of lecturers and distribution or booklets and DVDs, elaborated by Childhood Brasil itself. The first meeting at Santos Brasil will be conducted in July.
