03/01/2011
Santos Brasil will sponsor one of the world's greatest theater
performances to take place on the beach: The Encenação da Vila de
São Vicente. The historical reenactment that tells the story of the
foundation of the first city in Brazil, which has been held for
twenty-nine years, this year gained the approval of the Ministry of
culture to apply for resources through the Federal Law for the
Promotion of Culture (Rounet). Santos Brasil selected the project
as part of its strategy of investing in actions of
socioenvironmental responsibility geared towards the communities in
its area of influence.
The performance takes place in an arena on the Gonzaguinha beach
(São Vicente) and includes the participation of renowned actors,
supported by sound and lighting effects and scenery props. There
are seven days of shows, with an average public of fifty thousand
people. The performance tells the story of the city's birth,
reenacted at the exact site where the Portuguese navigator Martim
Afonso de Sousa disembarked on January 22, 1532. The performance is
transmitted by TV, radio and the Internet.
