Santos Brasil posts record of 70 container movements per hour
06/03/2011
Santos Brasil closed May with record productivity of 70 MPH
(container movements per hour) in Tecon Santos, up by more
than 30% over the 53 MPH posted in December 2010.
South America's largest container terminal has been recording a
continuous increase in productivity Since March, recording 60.71
MPH in March, 65.02 MPH in April and 70.19 MPH in May. According
to Washington Flores, head of Tecon Santos, these
figures are close to those of the most productive operations in the
western world and are in line with the Company's determination
to provide Brazil's foreign trade with rapid and secure
operations, thereby contributing to the country's development.
This achievement is the result of the commitment of Santos
Brasil's employees and a series of best operational practices,
including equipment upgrades, the training of crane operators and
the use of technological innovations in the port area. For example,
Santos Brasil pioneered the introduction of double hoist
portainers in Brazil, which are capable of handling up to two
40-foot or four 20-foot full containers simultaneously and are
considered by sector specialists to be the most up-to-date on the
market.
The Company expects to further improve its productivity
indicators by year-end. For this reason, it is continuing to
invest in high-tech equipment. This month alone, Tecon Santos will
receive ten new terminal tractors capable of pulling two full
containers at once.
