Santos Brasil becomes market leader in South America

According to Drewry Independent Maritime,
aLondon-based port sector consulting and publishung firm,
Santos Brasil had the largest container-handling market share in
South America in 2010 after being ranked second in 2009.
The Company's terminals (Tecon Santos - São Paulo,
Tecon Imbituba -Santa Catarina and Tecon Vila do Conde -
Pará) handled 1,412,944 TEUs, representing 7.7% of the South
American total. The survey also showed that revenue from container
handling in South America was 15% higher in 2010 than in 2009.
Santos Brasil expects to reach 1,600,000 TEUs in 2011, growth of
16.1%. The Company has invested in technological upgrades and staff
training in order to meet this demand with operational efficiency.
Investments totaled R$101.7 million year-to-date and are expected
to reach R$187.1 million by year-end. Productivity indicators also
reflect these operational improvements - in August 2011, Tecon
Santos achieved its highest ever figure of 80.38 MPH (container
movements per hour , almost 40% more than the 58.05 MPH
recorded in January of the same year.
