Tecon Imbituba enters Hamburg Süd and Aliança’s Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean route

The Cap San Rafael, which departed from Cartagena,
Colombia, willdock at Tecon Imbituba (SC) tomorrow, January 28.The
ship is the first Hamburg Süd and Aliançavessel on the Gulf of
Mexico andCaribbean routeto operate in Tecon Imbituba, Santos
Brasil'sstrategically located and easily accessible terminal in
Santa Catarina state, which is equipped with the latest technology
and has become an important logistics alternative in Brazil's
Southern region.
The company plans to transform the terminal, which has acurrent
handling capacity of 450,000 TEU (standard 20 feet containers),
into one of the region's leading port complexes. Capacity may
increase to 970,000 TEU in the midterm due to new demand.
Imbituba's porthas all the necessary characteristics for such a
project - it is strategically located in an ocean bay with a 15
meter draft in the south of Santa Catarina, 360 kilometers from
Porto Alegre (RS) and Curitiba (PR) and easily accessible from the
BR-101 highway andthe regional rail road network. "Imbituba Port
will serve both Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, states with
high industrial and agro-industrialoutput, as well as MERCOSUR and
the Central American countries, as is the case with the
Hamburg Süd and Aliança route, which now passes through
Imbituba,"declared Mauro Salgado, Santos Brasil's Commercial and
Administrative Officer.
