Tecon 1, the first Brazilian terminal especially built for
container movement, is inaugurated.
The Santos 2000 project, by São Paulo State Port Authority
(Codesp), is started with a view to make the Port of Santos more
modern and competitive. It determines parameters for the Port of
Santos Leasing and Partnership Program (Proaps).

The Santos Brasil Consortium wins the public bidding for the
Port of Santos container terminal leasing (Tecon Santos/Tecon 1),
as performed at the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa). The winning
consortium gives origin to Santos Brasil S.A.
250 meters of quay are added to the original 510 meters of the
Tecon Santos, which starts to operate with a 760-meter wharf.

Codesp determines that Santos Brasil S.A. must install and
operate, in an area adjacent to the Tecon Santos, a vehicle
handling terminal, in compliance with a long-time request by
automobile industries based in the State of São Paulo. The contract
was formalized in a unilateral and precarious Use Permit Term
(TPU), determining, among other things, that the future Vehicle
Export Terminal (TEV) would be operated by Santos Brasil only until
it is effectively presented in a public bidding.

The work of Tecon Santos' further expansion starts. The project
includes adding 220 meters of quay, giving the terminal a structure
with a 980-meter wharf-required for simultaneously operating three
modern, up to 300-meter long container vessels. That same month,
the corporation restructure plan is implemented with the creation
of the holding company Santos Brasil Participações S.A.
In November, Nova Logística S.A.-a subsidiary of Santos Brasil
Participações S.A.-expands its service portfolio after acquiring
Mesquita S.A. Transportes e Serviços, a Company specialized in
logistics services.
In February, NaraValley Participações S.A.-a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Santos Brasil Participações S.A.-acquires 75% of the
capital stock of the Pará Empreendimentos Financeiros S.A. company,
which owns 100% of the shares of Convicon - Contêineres de Vila do
Conde S.A. Since then, Santos Brasil holds the leasing control in
the Porto de Vila do Conde (State of Pará) container terminal.
In March, Santos Brasil Participações, through its wholly-owned
subsidiary Tecon Imbituba S.A., is declared the winner of the
bidding process for leasing the Port of Imbituba (State of Santa
Catarina) container terminal, which was held by Imbituba Port
Authority (CDI).
The public bidding process for the TEV leasing takes place.
Santos Brasil is declared the winner by means of its subsidiary
Union Armazenagem e Operações Portuária S.A.
