Santos Brasil implements its Human Rights Policy

17/03/2017 15:00 — Updated 100 month ago

Santos Brasil has just implemented its Human Rights Policy, which establishes basic guidelines for respecting, promoting and preserving essential rights in relationships with its customers, employees, suppliers and third parties across its value chain and its sphere of influence.

The new policy is built on the Company´s vision, mission and values, and is aligned with the principles set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Global Compact, which Santos Brasil has been a signatory to since 2013. It is also in accordance with the Brazilian legislation, the values agreed to internationally by Brazil, as well as with the Company´s Compliance and Sustainability policies.

The guidelines strengthen Santos Brasil´s rejection to any active or passive involvement or association in situations that characterize child labor, forced or compulsory labor, discrimination, violence in all its forms, moral or sexual harassment, sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, and other social issues.

"Our Human Rights policy is aligned with the belief in the important role played by private organizations in promoting fundamental values such as citizenship, democracy, equality, security and justice", explains Raquel Ogando, Santos Brasil Communications, Sustainability and Competitive Intelligence Executive Manager. "Setting clear guidelines conveys security and awakens a watchful, alert eye in our employees so that they become human rights promotion agents, also contributing to its applicability outside the company´s facilities", she emphasizes.

Santos Brasil provides a reporting channel managed by external auditors, which can be accessed on the Company´s website. The Confidential Portal is available to all parties related to the company, and ensures both anonymity and information integrity.
